Krzysztof Kieślowski Film Festival at the Shibuya EUROSPACE movie theatre between June 20th and July 17th 2009. The event will mark the 90th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Poland and Japan in 1919. Photo exhibition about Rafał Blechacz On the 15th of February this year, an opening of the photo exhibition about Rafał Blechacz was held in the branch of the music saloon Kawai, in Omotesando- the most popular tourist district of Tokyo. The exhibition was organized by Rafał Blechacz Fan Club, founded in 2006 by the Japanese-Polish Friendship Society in Shizuoka prefecture. The photo exhibition was held on the occasion of Rafal Blechacz music tour (from 6 to 20 of February 2009 in Osaka and Tokyo), organized by music producers Japan Arts.
Forum Polska 2008 The forth conference Forum Polska entitled Polish Catholicism took place on October 25th 2008 at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Tokyo where Japanese scientists gave lectures and shared their observations and recollections from Poland. The conference was enriched by the exhibition of photos from pilgrimage to Częstochowa and Kalwaria Zebrzydowska by Takuya Tsukahara and Chopin recital by Ikuko Endo. Fryderyk Chopin Piano recital by Prof. Kazimierz Gierżod Chopin Piano recital by Prof. Kazimierz Gierżod - the President of the Polish Fryderyk Chopin Society was held on May 15th 2008 at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Tokyo. The event gathered about 200 guests representing cultural, political and science circles as well as Poles living in Tokyo. Prof Gierżod was admired for his perfect piano skills and masterly performance of Chopin's works. The concert was followed by cocktail.
Exhibition Tadeusz Romer - "Diplomat and Emigrant" The solemn opening of the Exhibition Tadeusz Romer - "Diplomat and Emigrant" took place on April 25th 2008 at the premises of the embassy of the Republic of Poland. The event started with interesting lecture about Tadeusz Romer, Polish statesman and diplomat, the first Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Japan carried by Prof. Ewa Pałasz-Rutkowska, the specialist of Polish-Japanese relations from Warsaw University. The profile of Romer was also presented by Ambassador Marcin Rybicki, Małgorzata Dzieduszycka-Ziemilska - the curator of the exhibition, and Tadeusz Romer's relatives: the oldest granddaughter Jolanta Romer-Nitosławska from Mexico and grandson Marek Romer-Nitosławski from Canada. Short movie about Romer's exhibition presented in Museum Łazienki in Warsaw was emitted during the cocktail party. The exhibition open until May 28th.
"lokal_30" gallery at "101 TOKYO" fair On April 6th four-day "101 TOKYO Contemporary Art Fair 2008" came to an end. The main spot was a converted Rensei Chugakko junior high school building in the central district of Akihabara famous for its high-tech gadgetry and swarming with people from all over the world. Starting this year, the fair was created with the idea of promoting emerging yet trend-setting galleries with reliable achievements in the art field. Unlike the third edition of coinciding "Art Fair Tokyo" focused mainly on Japanese art, as much as a half of 28 participants of "101 TOKYO" was constituted by galleries from outside Japan, namely from China, India, Australia, South Africa, USA, UK, Norway, Spain, Switzerland, Germany and Poland. From among 70 applicants from over 20 countries, "lokal_30" gallery from Warsaw was invited to participate with the display of works by five artists: Filip Berendt (photography), Andrzej Cisowski (painting), Zuzanna Janin (installation), Jan Mioduszewski (sculpture), Karolina Zdunek (painting); furthermore, its presentation included thorough records illustrating activity and oeuvre of other creators connected with the gallery. "101 TOKYO 2008" was accompanied by numbers of lectures, panel discussions, performances and culminated with The Bacon Prize for the author of the most interesting pieces of art (Jo Coupe from "Workplace Gallery" in Newcastle) by the jury's decision and a majority vote of 5 000 visitors. Art-Pozy III - art exhibition in Osaka Contemporary Art. Center Polish-Japanese art exhibition A-21 took place between November 12th and 18th at the Osaka Contemporary Art Center http://www.npmart.co.jp/%60artincaso/2002/english/ The aim of the exhibition was to promote the Polish artistic environment in Osaka. The ART-Pozy III was a part of Katarzyna Kujawska-Murphy's project covering lectures and workshops held in May 2007 as well as exchange between artistic environment of the city of Poznań and Osaka. Polish Short Films Festival To mark the 50th Anniversary of Resumption of Diplomatic Relations between Poland and Japan, the Japanese National Film Archive together with Organizing Committee of Polish Films, Polish Film School in Łódź, Polish Film Institute and the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Tokyo organized Polish Short Films Festival. The event will take place from September 18-30 at the National Film Center in Tokyo. During the festival will be presented short works of Andrzej Wajda, Roman Polański, Jerzy Skolimowski, Krzysztof Zanussi, Krzysztof Kieslowski. Exhibition of Gold Prize Winning Entries from the Warsaw International Poster Biennale From August 3 to August 28, 2007, the ginza graphic gallery hold an exhibition entitled "The Warsaw Wind 1966-2006 - Gold Prize Winning Entries from the Warsaw International Poster Biennale". Established in 1966, the Warsaw International Poster Biennale is the world's most longstanding poster competition, which acquired a reputation as the Olympics of the poster world, with 2006 marking the 20th time it has been held. This exhibition retraces the competition's history by introducing previous prizewinning entries from the collection of the Poster Museum at Wilanów (a department of the National Museum in Warsaw), which provides the venue for the Biennale. Maria Kurpik, director of the Poster Museum at Wilanów, attended the exhibition's opening, and spoke about both trends in poster culture during the past 40 years and the social transformations that have provided their context. "Enchanted by Poland" photo exhibition of Mr. and Mrs. Masaaki Ono, the former Ambassador of Japan to Poland The opening ceremony of the photo exhibition of Mr. and Mrs. Masaaki Ono, the former Ambassador of Japan to Poland, took place on June 11th at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland.The exposition, at first presented at "Mangghha" - Center of Japanese Art and Technology in Cracow and at the residence of Ambassador Ono in Warsaw, consists of 30 panels with photos showing many different spots of Poland. On two extra panels was presented message written by Andrzej Wajda for this special occasion. About 300 guests representing opinion-forming political and culture circles visited the exhibition.
Violin concert by Konstanty Andrzej Kulka To mark the 50th Anniversary of Resumption of Japan - Poland Diplomatic Relations, the great violinist Professor Konstanty Andrzej Kulka gave concert at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland on May 30th 2007. Kulka performed music pieces of Ludwig van Beethoven, Henryk Wieniawski and Karol Lipiński. The presence of Junichiro Koizumi, the Former Prime Minister of Japan honored the evening. The concert and cocktail was attended by guests from political, cultural, media, business and diplomatic environments.
The exhibition of Drawings of Andrzej Wajda at Kume Museum of Art from March 31st to May 13th 2007 More than seventy drawings for theatre plays and cinema movies that were displayed at the museum belong to the collection of nearly one hundred works donated by the director to East Japan Railway Worker's Union JREU and Japan Confederation of Railway Worker's Unions JRU. Thanks to a great help of those two organizations a Japanese language school was built on the premises of the Centre of Japanese Art and Technology "Manggha" in Krakow. The exhibition shown Andrzej Wajda's drawings for films like "Ashes and Diamonds", "The Chronicle of Amorous Incidents" or "Holy Week", as well as for theatre plays like "The Wedding" or - displayed in Tokyo and Osaka - "Nastasja". Among these and many others, a special collection of posters for Andrzej Wajda's movies created by well known Polish graphic designers were also presented. The exhibition in Kume Museum of Art opened the series of cultural events commemorating the 50th anniversary of resumption of diplomatic relations between Poland and Japan organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland for promotion of the above mentioned countries.
